Innovation workshop of the KlimaWerkstatt@Berlin

On November 27, Niklas Albinius gave a practical insight into the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin's living lab for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) at the Solarcity Conference 2025 in Berlin.

Under the title “Strom aus der Fassade – Ein Praxisbericht zum Reallabor für bauwerkintegrierte Photovoltaik" (Electricity from the facade - a practical report on the living lab for building-integrated photovoltaics), he showed how a full-size BIPV facade works in a real building context and what findings have been gained from several years of scientific monitoring. The presentation highlighted both technical aspects and practical experience from planning, implementation and monitoring.

The conference as part of the "Masterplan Solarcity" brought together a wide range of players from the solar industry and offered a comprehensive look at current developments relating to Berlin's solar future. The aim of the master plan is to cover at least 25% of the electricity consumed with photovoltaics by 2035. We are delighted that facade PV was named as an important tool for achieving this goal in almost all presentations during the conference - first and foremost by Senator Franziska Giffey. With the latest development of this master plan, facade PV has also been named as an explicit measure since 2025, which is intended to further promote solar expansion in Berlin in the coming years.
